The LSU Museum of Art's (LSU MOA) education programs connect Grade-Level Expectations (GLEs) to exhibitions. Students learn about original art through core subjects like English Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. By applying skills learned in those subjects, students are better able to retain that information. LSU MOA programs are an engaging educational opportunity for teachers and their students.

Who are the main characters? Where is it set? What is the mood? Can we make inferences? How do artists and authors use satire? “Reading” an artwork can be like reading a story. Students are challenged to apply those skills as we tour Caroline Durieux: A Radioactive Wit exhibition in search of stories in art.

Symmetry in Art
3rd -12th = 2 hours
Focusing on the Museum’s permanent collection, students investigate how artists think about and use visual balance: symmetry, asymmetry, and radial symmetry in their artworks. They will compare visual balance with mathematical symmetry as they combine elements of both into an artwork of their own.
Planning Your Visit:
Reservations: Groups of 10 or more students are required in order to make reservations. Please fax, mail, or email the completed reservation form. We do not take phone reservations. We recommend that reservations be made at least three weeks in advance.
Weekdays available: Tuesday through Friday Earliest arrival: 9 a.m. Latest departure: 2 p.m.
Student group size: 10 minimum, 60 maximum
Fee: $2 per student per tour.
Chaperones: One chaparone for every 10 students is required and admitted for free.
Lunches: Groups can picnic on the Shaw Center’s fourth floor River Terrace, in Shaw Plaza or across the street in Lafayette Park.
Museum Store: Your visit will include time in LSU Museum of Art’s Museum Store, which offers an eclectic assortment of unique art, toys, gifts, greeting cards, paper goods and books. The Museum Store also features special merchandise highlighting our current exhibitions.
General Information
Location:100 Lafayette St., 5th floor, in downtown Baton Rouge, across North Boulevard from the Old State Capitol.
Deposits and Confirmations: LSU MOA will email or fax you to confirm your reservation. If the day or time you have requested is unavailable, we will contact you to make other arrangements. You must return a signed copy of your confirmation with your deposit which is equal to the minimum amount required ($20 for a School Day Tour, $40 for a Family Field Trip). Your reservation is not complete until the LSU MOA has received your deposit and the signed copy of your confirmation form. On the day of your visit, you will only need to pay the balance based on your number of participants. Example: You make a reservation for 24 students for a School Day Tour. Your deposit is $20. On the day of your visit, only 23 of your students visit the Museum. Your balance due on that day is $26.
Cancellations and No-Shows: A lot of effort and expense goes into providing for your group’s visit. Groups that cancel with more than 30 days notice are welcome to reschedule for another day or time. The LSU Museum of Art reserves the right to refuse future reservation requests for groups that cancel with less than 30 days notice, or fail to show up for a scheduled program.
Accessibility: The LSU MOA is handicapped accessible. Wheel chairs are available on request. Seeing-eye dogs are permitted on the premises. Please note any special needs on your reservation form.
